The job: An influential publisher of books and ELT magazines, primarily for the teen market, is seeking to appoint a Desk Editor. Reporting to the Head of English the successful applicant will divide their time between traditional (print on paper) and electronic publishing. Among a number of key responsibilities they will be expected to ensure that all the components that support the various ELT secondary magazines are published within schedule and to budget; to personally write and edit one ELT magazine in-house and to maintain feedback mechanisms to ensure that the various components continue to meet the needs of students and teachers alike.

The person: Candidates are likely to be at Desk Editor level with an ELT qualification (CELTA or equivalent and/or ELT teaching experience). Someone who is versed in traditional publishing and who has the enthusiasm to embrace electronic publishing methods - in other words with an aptitude towards digital. Someone who can keep abreast of trends in youth culture and new media across Europe ensuring that the various components maintain their key selling points i.e. being topical and motivating to teenage users; assist marketing in preparing copy promoting features and benefits of site and the traditional magazine; to work with the design, picture research and in-house web team to ensure both editorial and budget goals for the magazine and the website are met.
