The job: Our client is a well-respected publisher of popular non-fiction adult books, who regularly win industry awards for their innovative publishing. They are seeking to appoint a Publisher; someone with a track record in non-fiction publishing including popular subjects such as celebrity biographies, history, reference and others. The person appointed will play a key role in developing and implementing a publishing strategy for both existing and new products that reflect the changing tastes of the popular non-fiction book market. The primary purpose of the role is to maximise profitability through a cost-effective editorial process and shaping and maintaining a commercially attractive list.

The person: Candidates are likely to already be a Publisher or at Editorial Director level and experienced in text-driven rather than illustrated books. Someone with wide-ranging contacts, an up to date knowledge of the market and who can personally bring to the company’s extensive and impressive lists some interesting and innovative new titles. They will be commercially aware, entrepreneurial and creative. The successful applicant will need sound budget management skills and a proven track record of working effectively with and leading a publishing team. Excellent business, people and management skills, and a good understanding and appreciation of the team dynamic required to create successful products.
