The job: A highly regarded publisher of local and specialist history is seeking to appoint a Senior Commissioning Editor. Reporting to the Head of Publishing the person appointed will join an established editorial team. The main responsibility will be to manage a trade list focusing on Military & Aviation and other transport areas. The role will have wide-ranging responsibilities including, commissioning titles, completing proposals, finding and managing authors and presenting titles. Prioritising and allocating work and managing the backlist are also important aspects of this challenging role along with management of print runs, pricing, schedules and quality. Relevant contacts include design, marketing, sales, production and finance departments and other editorial team members.

The person: The ideal applicant will have experience of commissioning in the areas of military, aviation and transport generally. They will have a personal enthusiasm for these subjects and ideally will already have contacts in these fields and who can significantly help to contribute to grow the list. Excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills and strong commercial acumen are essential. A flair for creativity, resourcefulness and confident skills at presenting new titles are also essential. Above all the role requires an experienced editor with good working knowledge of all the editorial processes required to commission and publish a book. Experience of managing or influencing their editorial colleagues would be a positive advantage.

Salary: Excellent salary depending on experience.
