The job: Part of one of the world’s major publishing groups, this well known publisher of serious non-fiction for students, professionals, scholars and the general reader is seeking to recruit an experienced and pro-active foreign rights professional to work on a prestigious and substantial programme of scholarly and reference titles. Reporting to the Associate Rights Director, the primary purpose of the role will be to license and sell translation rights for publication worldwide. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in developing a rights career where they can have a significant impact on the company’s rights strategy. The person: The successful applicant must be an excellent negotiator with experience of drafting contracts and licences. Good communication skills and the ability to build great customer relationships are essential. A solid understanding of copyright and strong awareness of digital issues in relation to rights and licensing are also required. Ideally they will have a background in translation rights sales within an academic environment, together with good IT skills, and will be able to analyse sales figures and plan for future strategic growth. The role will suit someone who is organised and efficient and who can work independently to achieve targets, and who will also work well as part of a team. As independent overseas travel is required, fluency in one or more foreign languages would be a distinct advantage. Salary: Salary depending on experience.
