Editorial Director (Children's)

The job: Our client is a well-known and respected publisher who, in addition to publishing a wide range of adult books, also possesses an exciting list of children’s books for 0 to Teen years. The company now wishes to appoint a Children’s Editorial Director to help further extend the range of their children’s publishing. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Editorial Director will take complete responsibility for the company’s children’s publishing programme. This is a high profile, decision-making role within the company and the job holder will have full responsibility for continuing to build what is an exciting and dynamic list containing cutting edge design, innovative packaging, imaginative writing and inventive and original products.

The person: The successful candidate will be a talented and driven publishing professional with significant experience of illustrated non-fiction children’s publishing. Experience / exposure to one or all of the following: -
co-edition markets, novelty product and licensing / branding. In addition to being entrepreneurial and having a positive commercial attitude, candidates will also need to have excellent project management and new project development skills; experience of delivering in-house pitches; costing; sourcing; negotiation through contract stage and scheduling. Experience of commissioning authors, freelance editors and packagers, and liaising with picture research, design, production and sales departments on all aspects of illustration and visual presentation, are all essential elements of this exciting and exacting role. The job would suit a sales oriented, highly creative, innovative and commercial risk taker with a real passion for children's publishing.

Salary: Excellent salary depending on experience.
