The job: Our client is a medium-sized, mass market publisher specialising in high profile, non-fiction including biography humour, music, sport and other subjects. They are a successful, independent publishing house always looking for ground-breaking new ideas to enhance readers' experience and they frequently ‘punch’ above their weight. They have asked Meridian to assist with the appointment of a person to manage their Publicity, someone who will join their innovative and creative publishing team. This is an exciting and challenging role where the job holder will be responsible for all aspects of publicity and promotional campaigns. This will include planning to publication with a particular emphasis on obtaining significant coverage in national media including writing press releases and arranging media coverage, signings, author tours, appearances, events and major media promotions. There will inevitably be some evening and weekend work plus traveling.

The person: This job will suit someone with excellent media contacts and experience of book publicity who is creative and wants to take charge of their own operation. They will be comfortable handling a degree of pressure and have a thorough understanding of modern internet, twitter and similar forms of publicity and enough publishing experience and contacts to handle conventional print media, TV, signings, etc. A proven record of achieving widespread book publicity is essential and ideally a strong interest in the subject areas. Excellent communication, presentation and organisation skills as well as creative flair, a proactive attitude and the ability to juggle a large and varied workload are essential.

Salary: Depending on experience.
