SELECTION
Commissioning Editor

Ref: 12539JB

Location: London

The job: Our client is a highly respected publisher of accessible books in a range of areas. These include: social work, education and arts therapies for parents, professionals, academics and the general reader. The company is also recognised as a leading publisher on Autism and Asperger syndrome. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Commissioning Editor will take responsibility for much of the Autism list and some other specialist subjects. It is very much a list that someone even with limited subject-specific experience could really enjoy developing. The role will suit someone with energy who would like to work in a smaller company, and whose driver is the value of the list as the company enormously value what they do for their readers. The role may involve at least one trip to the US to attend a major annual conference, plus the possibility of other travel.

The person: The successful candidate will have at least three years' commissioning experience, ideally more. Note: Someone intelligent, keen and competent would be perfectly well able to handle the very specialised list even with limited subject-specific publishing experience since there is a lot of knowledge and experience in the company to draw on. Someone who has been commissioning in or around Autism would be preferred as Autism is one of the company’s strongest lists. The person appointed will need to be competitive by nature and enjoy commissioning in competition with larger publishing houses.

Salary: Excellent salary depending on experience and including benefits
