The job: A leading, highly respected provider of knowledge products and services for the construction industry is recruiting for a Commissioning Editor for their Science / Engineering Journals. Reporting to the Commissioning and Acquisitions Manager, the main responsibilities will be identifying and commissioning suitable authors, editors, reviewers, members, expert panels, or external Societies to work with the organisation on journals and other agreed projects; presenting fully costed proposals for new publishing projects to senior colleagues for approval, and drafting and negotiating publishing contracts with external authors and editors. Other responsibilities will include market research to assess trends, gaps in the market and product viability and reviewing market competitors to ensure products are attractive to authors and customers. Some travel, nationally or internationally will also be required. The person: Candidates must be educated to degree level or higher with significant experience in commissioning and list management, ideally within Academic / STM subject areas. Substantial experience of journal publishing in an editorial role is essential, with some experience of publishing in electronic media also required. Knowledge of the construction industry is also desirable. Candidates will also need a good understanding of market research techniques and ability to prepare, interpret and present financial information. Excellent communication skills, an organised and methodical approach to tasks, highly proficient communication skills in both written and oral work and good teamwork and relationship building skills are also important.
