The job: A leading independent publisher of professional and academic books in the social and behavioural sciences is seeking to recruit a Sales Manager. The main purpose of the role will be to increase profitable sales of both book and non-book material through the UK book trade, including the major wholesalers and non-traditional sales outlets. And to include trade partners and distributors in a number of export markets. Establishing new partnerships with bookshops and other outlets, both in the UK and overseas, are other important aspects of this wide ranging role. Attendance at Frankfurt, London and possibly other international Book Fairs will also be required. The person: Candidates will need proven negotiating and selling ability; an understanding or appreciation of the company’s specific markets would be a positive advantage. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work productively with other departments within the company. A good understanding of the commitment, goals and ethos of the company will be important and should be accompanied by the ability to deal with authors in a manner consistent with the company’s preferred style and approach.
