The job: An international market-leading publisher of fiction and non-fiction books for children of all ages is looking to make a senior sales appointment to their Rights team. The actual job title will be either Deputy Rights Director or Group Rights Manager depending on the experience of the person appointed. Responsibilities will include sales and account management to a variety of territories; departmental administration; setting budget forecasts and monitoring sales. Implementing and overseeing systems for the team working on all imprints are other key responsibilities. Depending on previous experience the role could also involve selling to at least one book club, one special sales account and possibly some US sales. The person: Candidates should be experienced foreign rights managers, with an excellent track record within rights, perhaps already managing a small department. Experience of children's publishing is essential along with co-edition experience and a genuine interest in and understanding of children's books. Some experience of film and TV rights would also be advantageous. Fluency in one or more language is desirable with working knowledge (or better) of Spanish a distinct advantage. The post will require first-class communication and negotiation skills along with strong commercial nous, excellent customer service skills and demonstrable ability to build up accounts. The role would suit a target-driven, team player with excellent organisational skills and the ability to grasp the bigger picture while keeping an eye on the detail of contracts and deal fulfilment. As the role will also involve defined UK accounts some experience in this area will also be a distinct advantage.
