The job: An internationally renowned publisher of illustrated non-fiction books is looking to appoint a Project Editor for their successful, growing cookery list. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for project editing and managing several cookery titles per year. This will involve briefing freelancers, creating and maintaining schedules and budgets, controlling editorial quality and preparing and checking layouts and proofs. Other aspects of the role include research, fact-checking, image processing and picture list management. The Project Editor will also be responsible for preparing and writing sales material, occasional copy-editing and proofreading and some research and development of future projects along with occasional administrative support to commissioning editor and editorial director. The person: Candidates should have proven experience of editing illustrated books and sound experience in all aspects of project management. Strong editorial ability and writing skills, meticulous attention to detail and a flexible attitude are essential, as are a thorough knowledge of food and the ability to assess the quality of a recipe. A foreign language, whilst not essential, would be extremely helpful. The person appointed will need to be able to demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills, the ability to use initiative, creativity and enthusiasm, financial awareness, confident communication skills, and an aptitude for effective problem-solving.
