The job: A highly regarded packager and publisher of creative illustrated handbooks and guides for the life & style, gift & humour, reference and teen markets are looking for a Publishing Manager. This is a senior role in this small and growing company and the job holder will report directly to the M.D. Primary responsibilities will be managing the creative side of the companies business, strategizing the development of the front list programme with new ideas and directions, optimising backlist potential in new and creative ways and overall editorial quality control. Other responsibilities include budgeting, scheduling, review of editorial and production procedures and improvement of workflow. The person appointed will manage and mentor editorial staff, brief freelancers, and commission international authors and develop relationships with agents. This interesting and challenging role will also include exploring and commissioning international custom publishing and holding presentation meetings particularly with UK publishers. The person: Candidates will need significant experience of co-edition / illustrated and particularly lifestyle publishing either in a senior editor or managing editor role. The person appointed will ideally have a sound background in publishing programme planning and management, and the ability to combine strong creativity with well-developed commercial awareness and acumen. Someone with experience of photo shoots. Alternatively someone with significant international experience particularly geared to the US markets. The successful candidate will need to be a resourceful, enthusiastic, driven self-starter, with confident, influential communication and negotiation skills, and have the ability to make a major contribution to the continuing success and development of the company.
