The job: A specialist publisher of practical guides and software for businesses and educational organisations is recruiting a Product Manager for a 6 month contract commencing August 2008. Working primarily with a backlist catalogue the successful candidate will be involved in managing product updates and assisting in the creation of marketing plans including proposing new target groups and marketing strategies. Responsibilities of the role include agreeing content and structure of updates with authors, checking and approving updated manuscripts ready for editing and typesetting, developing and updating author / editor information and finding and managing product champions to help monitor product quality. Assessing customer feedback; conducting market research; monitoring market trends and competitor information; monitoring subscriber numbers and preparing profit / profitability calculations of products are other important aspects of the role. The person: The successful candidate will be of degree calibre with 3 years practical experience in commissioning and / or publishing. Strong ability to negotiate with authors and editors is essential and experience of educational and professional products an advantage. Commercial acumen, resourcefulness and creativity in researching backlist topic ideas will be key. The role is likely to suit highly organised and logical candidates with ability to tackle several projects at the same time and develop appropriate systems and procedures.
