The job: A successful independent children's publisher, well known for its creative non-fiction titles, selling both to the trade and schools and libraries, is looking for a Senior designer who will use their creativity and imagination to come up with innovative designs for pre-school children's books and novelty items. The primary responsibility will be the design of books, covers, catalogues, marketing material and the website. This will include initiating ideas, developing new products and pushing ever-evolving creative solutions whilst maintaining a high level of design quality. Working within a small and close-knit team, the person appointed will ensure that the work is of the highest quality, to schedule and to budget.

The person: The ideal candidate will have a good design qualification plus exceptional design skills. They will need a thorough understanding of design, both technically and in terms of how it works in the commercial pre-school and other non-fiction titles marketplace, both in the UK and internationally. It is important that candidates have worked extensively in QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and can demonstrate excellent pre-press skills. The role would suit a highly organised and flexible individual with a keen eye for detail, proven creativity and flair and with good people skills.
