The job: A well known publisher of illustrated non-fiction is looking for a specialist Editor to work on their established and successful Natural History list. The person appointed will be responsible for managing a range of titles covering British and worldwide wildlife. They will be responsible for the full editorial function on specified titles and work with an in-house team on associated editorial tasks, including promotional materials and annual catalogue. Key tasks include completing all stages of editorial work on new titles - from creation of sales dummies through to plotter proof. This will involve working closely with the Design Manager to brief out freelance design, producing sales materials and blurb writing for jackets, liaising with Sales and Rights Departments on jacket designs and negotiating fees with freelance suppliers including consultants, designers, illustrators and photographers. The person: A sound understanding of natural history is essential, including a familiarity with English and scientific nomenclature. The ideal candidate will have a passion for natural history and be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the subject and a meticulous eye for detail. They will be creative, self-motivated, hard-working, committed and proficient in Word and Quark, as well as able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
