The job: A well known children's educational and consumer books publisher with a range of high quality children's educational support material including school and library books, reading schemes and teacher resources is seeking to appoint a Senior Commissioning Editor. The company publishes across the age ranges of 0 - 16 + providing resources for most areas of the curriculum. The companies' philosophy is to pride themselves on creating high quality books, cd-roms and online materials for children and teachers that give clear and accessible information and that inspire further investigation, fire the imagination and instil a love of learning and books. The successful candidate will join a small in-house editorial team and will work with freelance designers, editors and authors to develop both print and electronic product. This is a hands on role where the person appointed will be involved in everything including commissioning, proof reading and market research. Some flexibility may be available in working arrangements. The person: Candidates should be experienced commissioning editors with awareness of co-editions and ideally experience across educational and children's publishing. A general children's editor would be considered but they will need to be very interested in the educational side of children's publishing as the role is more educational than trade. Experience of managing both freelancers and packagers is essential. The successful candidate will be an experienced self-starter with the determination and ability to drive the list forward and achieve commercial and product success.
