Editor [Children's]

Location: Northern Home Counties

The job: A specialist children's publisher and packager, producing a range of non-fiction and fiction titles for the UK and international markets, is looking for an Editor to work on a wide and varied list which in the main will be children's illustrated reference. Reporting to the Editorial Director the successful candidate will take responsibility for managing some large and complex projects. They will be responsible for project management, keeping the projects on schedule, within budget and to high standards. As well as generally helping the company to seize publishing opportunities by contributing ideas for new projects, suggesting contributors and developing relationships with publishing partners (especially those in the USA). Editorial supervision and training of less experienced staff in book production techniques and editorial skills will be a significant part of the Editor's responsibilities.

The person: Candidates should be experienced editors with good working knowledge of all processes involved in the origination of full colour. Experience within children's publishing would be ideal. Strong familiarity with desktop publishing including Word, Quark and / or InDesign is essential and knowledge of Excel a distinct advantage. A keen eye for detail, imagination, sound organisational skills and team-working ability and a confident communication style are other requirements for this role. This is an important position within the company that will suit a natural team-leader with a good grasp of editing and all the publishing processes; someone who would flourish within a small friendly team.

Salary: c. £22k possibly up to £25k for an experienced candidate.
