The job: A major international academic, educational and professional publisher is looking for an experienced and highly resourceful Commissioning/Acquisitions Editor to further develop their Business, Management, Law and Economics journals list for academic markets. Reporting to the Journals Publisher, key responsibilities will include researching and proposing potential projects, preparing acquisition strategies, and shaping and delivering an effective publications programme. The person appointed will be fully involved in all aspects of list development and title management, including market research, commissioning, financial and contract management, and creating and maintaining effective relationships with both internal and external contacts. Some international travel will also be required. The person: Candidates should ideally be graduates, with a sound background in commissioning, list management and product development, ideally with good knowledge and experience of the subject areas, and preferably within an academic journals publishing environment. A thorough understanding and appreciation of the international academic community and its publishing needs, including current trends and market conditions, is an important requirement for this key role. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a structured, results-focused approach to planning and project management, plus the ability to build and manage strong, productive working relationships, together with excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, strong commitment and ability to make a positive contribution within the Journals team.
