The job: A leading international trade publishing house is looking for a Group Sales Development Manager to manage sales development across markets including Travel, Media, Entertainment, Corporate and FMCG. The person appointed will be responsible for finding and developing new business through custom publishing and special sales across non-book brands and businesses and managing all aspects of the sales process from concept of idea to delivery of product. Reporting to the Group Sales Director the successful candidate will work on their own initiative, but work closely with the Project Manager and the group Production and Editorial departments and regularly liaise with Editors, Sales, and Trade Marketing on promotional book ideas to deliver to budget by capitalising on new business opportunities as well as developing existing business. The person: Ideally, candidates with a business/marketing degree or good experience in a media / business development role preferably sales; display advertising, sponsorship or licensing. Some knowledge of the publishing industry and experience dealing with media/magazine sector in a sales development capacity or special sales in publishing would be an advantage. Experience of business development including finding / creating opportunities and negotiating deals are important along with experience in closing deals and meeting ambitious sales targets. Candidates will also need good selling / negotiation skills and confident presentation skills which should be matched with commercial awareness and proven creative and lateral thinking. The successful candidate will be self motivated with an upbeat positive approach. A genuine interest in books is desirable.
