Publisher [Secondary Education]

The job: A well respected publisher of a wide range of subject specific educational resources for the UK Secondary market is seeking to appoint a Publisher. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the company's publishing lists covering subjects across the secondary curriculum and will work closely with the Publishing Director to prepare a mid to long-term publishing strategy. Responsibilities include establishing a list building and marketing policy, exploring new curriculum areas for business development and ensuring that front and back list plans are in place to develop and publish new series, titles and editions that match curriculum and revenue requirements. Developing strong relationships with authors, key educational institutions and bodies is a major aspect of this interesting and challenging role.

The person: Candidates will need significant appropriate publishing experience with a substantial background in portfolio development and product management, particularly for the education community. A good understanding of educational publishing needs and a sound knowledge of current trends and market conditions are essential, teaching experience would also be a distinct advantage. Experience in commissioning and / or developing large projects and ability to forge strong author relations are essential. A natural authority to drive projects forward, strong commercial awareness, together with confident, influential communication skills, a positive, results-focused approach to planning, project management, decision-making and problem-solving are all key requirements for this proactive role. A network and contact building approach plus an existing list of contacts would be extremely helpful.
