The job: Our client, a leading, independently owned and highly successful publisher of entertainment and popular non-fiction, has asked us to help them recruit a Deputy Editorial Director for their highly innovative, interactive and beautifully illustrated Children's list. It is a new role reporting to the Editorial Director for Children's where the person appointed will act as second-in-command to a small team of editors and designers. It is an all round editorial role with responsibility for reporting on activity in the Editorial Director's absence. Responsibilities include commissioning children's non-fiction for the co-edition market, hands-on editing and the management and administration of the process to take a book from initial idea to finished product.

The person: The ideal candidate will be a talented and driven Senior Commissioning Editor with substantial co-edition and non-fiction children's publishing experience. Strong hands-on editorial capability and first class project management skills are essential. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to keep publishing admin firmly under control, the skills required to juggle a number of creative projects simultaneously and a background of working with out of house suppliers. It will suit a dynamic, proactive and creative troubleshooter who can make things happen. It is a terrific opportunity for an ambitious Commissioning Editor who now wants to embrace the next rung of management.
